Well I have to admit that my new years resolution to keep this up to date has not panned out so well.  So Sorry!!  I will continue to work on staying more current, it just seems to slip away with all we do.

We will start with the fact that FEI has had few teams here these past months.  Sandpoint, Idaho is the first FEI team since October.  Please pray for more teams this year.  They came to serve communities here with over 3000 pairs of glasses, but the glasses got stuck in customs!  Well, that was a surprise for all of us, no problems in all our past eyeglass teams, but this time was special.  We began the process of the paper work required for them to bring them in and serve on the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua.  This took until Thursday of the next week to get them out.  Well, what did they do, they prayed and GOD answered?  GOD provided about 1200 pairs that were in Puerto for use, and the miracle was, that the program used for organizing these glasses was the same that the Sandpoint team was using to organize the glasses that had got stuck in customs.  So, by the end of the week, even though one day of glass ministry was set up to do a little preperation with the other glasses, they served over 250 people, men, women, children, ages 8–87.  GOD is so good all the time.

The other projects that they worked on was to provide a kitchen and bedroom for Daniel and his family.  This is the man that was paralyzed last year, and GOD has been healing him a little at a time.  He now is singing with the worship team and has a part time job as a watchee [some one who watches the gate], at the Verbo school.  GOD is amazing.

This team also worked on helping with the Verbo Ministry baseball field, trying to get it ready for teams to play on it.  That was a lot of physically hard work, but they pressed on and even got many of the neighbor hood kids involved.  They also brought new uniforms for the adult Verbo team, these being provided through many donors, but the work was started by our late friend Gary Williams.  Karen, his wife, and Brooke, his daughter were here to present these to the team.  That was another huge blessing for this ministry here in Nicaragua.  The team also had time to visit and pray in the hospital, put a party on for the kids in the orphanage, Pastor Tony shared the Word twice through translation, they provided glasses for the girls and staff at the FEI Villa Esperanza in Managua, and blessed many families with their encourageing words and actions in all they did.

Kris and I want to thank Sandpoint for all they did while here.  May GOD bless you all as you adjust to life at home.

Kris and I are well, and are getting ready to say good by to some of our missionary friends, Keveta and Austin.  Keveta, who has been here over 6, going on 7 years, will head back to California in May to live full time.  Austin has been here over a year already, will be moving back sometime this summer.  We are going to miss them both very much.  We continue to work on the Safe Water ministry of FEI, which includes the purchase of a new rotary rig and also providides water filters with hygiene trainging to families in communities.  See link Water For Life   Spanish is still a struggle for us both, but we continue to make progress, and Kris is working also on Miskito.  She is doing much better than I in that.

I have written enough for now, I will try to communicate better, shorter and more often.  Thanks for your partnership here in Puerto Cabezas, and we look forward to seeing some of you soon.

REFLECTIONS

I have had the privilege of visiting every state in the US, except one, and 11 countries, and yet this place you see above, is my favorite place in all the places I have been.  Growing up in the mountains of North Idaho, I had many opportunities to see HIS creation and its beauty.  It was during these times as a young boy that GOD showed me HE existed.  Of course it was not until later in my life that I took hold of the promises of life that CHRIST offered to me.  So when I reflect on life at the end of the year, GOD reminds me of where HE first showed me HIMSELF and where HE has carried me!

WOW, what a privilege I had to be born in a great place, with great parents, great siblings, and great friends.  This thought immediately brings me back to where I am at today.  At first when you live in an area of the world that sees so much of pain and suffering, you ask GOD, why was I born where I was?  The only answer I come up with is, ” I do not know?”  I have no answer!  But, the one thing that I do know is that with this gift that I was given, there is a requirement of sacrifice, the willingness to share my life with those who have tremendous needs.

It is because of YOU, our family, friends, and co-workers, who have partnered with us for the last 5 years, that we have been able to be a part of what GOD is doing in different parts of this world we all live in.  We have now been living in Nicaragua for the past 2 years and looking forward to this coming year.  I think it is important to look back and see if the effort and resources we are expending are making any difference.  Because if not, then why are we here?

Since we have been here in Puerto Cabezas, we have seen these following things happen: Over 7000 people have access to safe water; the first phase of children’s home is 55% complete; 300+ volunteers have come and impacted the orphanage, jail, hospital, and other outreach ministries of Verbo; over 800 eyeglasses distributed to those who probably never had glasses; 2 team members receive CHRIST; over 40 Nicaraguans receive CHRIST; Celebrate Recovery effecting change in over 40 families; 10 plus families now have homes to live in; 4 families have jobs because of mission dollars; multiple micro loans made available for start up businesses; dental and medical work accomplished; mission house completed; resources raised for a new well rig and other health and hygiene programs; longterm partnerships made with churches and schools; and the list could go on.  What GOD has done behind the scenes, only HE knows.

So as you reflect on what your partnership with us and with Forward Edge International is doing, be blessed knowing that your sacrifices are making a difference here, and through out the world.  Kris and I thank you for trusting us and allowing us the privilege of serving with you here and in other places we have in the past and in other places in the future.  We pray that GOD will multiply your investment of time, prayer, and finances this coming year. THANKS!!

Isa 58:9–10 NIV — Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. “If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.

JESUS CHRIST, DAY OF HIS BIRTH!!

THREE Days until the DAY, the day that people celebrate all over the world.  I believe that this is the most important DAY in all the world.  Others may disagree, but since this is my blog, I can say what I want.  The celebrations for this day are all different, even here where you have Miskito, Creole, Spanish, American, or some other nationality living side by side.  Some may have soup for this day, others may have turtle or fish, and still others may have that famous other white meat, Turkey, one of my favorites.  What is it that we have in common on this Day above all days?  On the surface, we all know the answer, we have the right words to say; “It is the birth of the Christ child.”  That fact is true, JESUS CHRIST was born on this day, history does not deny that this is a fact!  So What??  Another child born in another place at another time in another part of history, an event that has been going on since the beginning of time.  What makes this child so important?

The answer is, YOU!!  You make this child different.  If it was not for you, this child would not have been born.  HE was the only CHILD born just for you and for your future.  GOD would not have had this CHILD spend 1 second on this earth if it was not for YOU!  If you were the only person on this earth, the FATHER would have sent this CHILD for you.  So the thing that makes this CHILD different is that HE was born as a gift to you.  A CHILD that would someday grow up and give all of HIMSELF for you.  HE did not hold anything back, but gave you everything that HE had to give.  So this DAY, this CHRISTMAS DAY, remember that this CHILD came to this earth just for YOU!!

As you give gifts this year to those you love, remember this gift that the FATHER gave to you, and to me, and to all of us, a CHILD, the gift of LIFE.

FOLLOWING.……

Many of us have skimmed over the book of Numbers with all its lists and instructions and names of people.  But today I found a very interesting verse that challenged me and I thought I would share it with you.  Numbers 9:23 “At the commandment of the Lord they camped, and at the commandment of the Lord they traveled on; they kept the instructions of the Lord according to the commandment of the Lord, .….”  As I read this this morning I realized what commitment and sacrifice it took to follow after GOD in the desert.  Sometimes they would stay a day, sometimes a week, and sometimes even months.  But they always had to be ready to follow HIS leading.  It did not matter how comfortable they were, or how long they had been there.  As individuals, they had to pack up their tents, their belongings, their families,  and follow.  They learned that GOD knew what was best for them, and continued to follow his cloud by day and fire by night.

Where are we today, where are you today?  Are you open to GOD’s leading and willing to go?  Are you listening for HIS voice and have you made yourself available to HIM?  My prayer for myself today is, “LORD help me to stay when I want to go, and help me to go, when I want to stay!”

WHAT IS THANKS? REALLY?

Today, I am reminded of John’s family. Many of you know John, one of the many translators who has worked with FEI teams and others. Many of you had the opportunity to visit the prison with John as he shared how GOD had worked in his life and how that affected the men. He was very helpful, loved people, and was always giving GOD credit for JESUS’s absolute work in peoples lives. A few weeks ago, John, my friend, died. I do not know for sure, but it may have been from drugs. The fact is that the last months of his life, he was not himself, he was despondent and allusive. We spent some time with him a few weeks before, and prayed with him and his family, letting him know we cared and that there was HOPE.

We all are capable of falling back into our past. It is possible for all of us to experience loss at any moment in our lives. We are not guaranteed a life free from pain, but we are guaranteed a HOPE for living. I am thankful today for many things, most of all the forgiveness that GOD gives each of us through the death and resurrection of JESUS CHRIST. Without that promise of HOPE, there is no reason to continue to go on. When people loose HOPE, they loose life.

Today, we thank GOD for our families, our friends, our blessings on this earth, but let us remember in prayer, those like John who have lost hope, and those families that have lost loved ones. Encourage all those around you with the HOPE of CHRIST this Thanksgiving, and love those who are close to you today, who ever they may be. You may not have the opportunity tomorrow.

Jeff
